[원서로 영어공부하기] 윔피키드1 #4 Wimpy kid 16-20p

 

 

 

Actually, /I’m kind of glad /my plan /to get put /in the Easy group /didn’t work. I saw/ a couple of the “Bink Says Boo” kids /holding their books /upside down,  and I don’t think/ they were joking.

 

사실, 기초 그룹에 들어가려 했던 내 계획이 실패해서 살짝 기뻐. 몇몇 Binnk Says Boo 애들이 책을 거꾸로 잡고 있는 걸 봤거든. 그리고 그들이 장난치는 게 아닌 거 같아.

 

Saturday

Well, the first week of school /is finally over, /so today I slept in.

 

학교가 첫 주가 끝났어. 그래서 오늘 늦잠을 잤어.

 

Most kids wake up early/ on Saturday/ to watch cartoons or whatever, /but not me. The only reason /I get out of bed/ at all on weekends/ is because eventually,/ I can’t stand /the taste of my own breath/ anymore.

 

대부분 애들은 만화 같은 걸 보려고 토요일에도 일찍 일어나더라고. 근데 난 아니야. 내가 주말에 침대에 일어나는 유일한 이유는 내 입 냄새를 참을 수 없기 때문이야. 

 

Unfortunately, /Dad wakes up /at 6:00 in the morning/ no matter what day of the week it is,/ and he is not real considerate /of the fact /that I’m trying to enjoy/ my Saturday /like a normal person.

 

불행히도, 아빠는 나를 아침 6시에 깨워.. 어떤 요일이든 상관없이 말이야. 그리고 아빠는 진짜 내가 다른 사람들처럼 나의 토요일을 즐기려는 사실에 상관하지 않아. 

 

I didn’t have anything to do /today /so I just headed up /to Rowley’s house.

 

나는 오늘 아무것도 하기 싫어. 그래서 난 Rowley네 집으로 갔어.

 

Rowley is technically my best friend, /but that is definitely subject to change.

 

Rowley는 엄밀히 따지면 내 가장 친한 친구야. 그러나 그건 바뀔 수도 있어.  

 

I’ve been avoiding Rowley /since the first day of school, /when he did something /that really annoyed me.

 

그가 나에게 완전 짜증 나는 행동을 했기 때문에, 학교 첫날 이후로 Rowley를 피해왔어. 

 

We were getting our stuff /from our lockers /at the end of the day, /and Rowley came up to me/ and said-  "want to come over to my house/ and plaayyy?"/

 

우리가 방과 후에 라커에서 물건을 꺼낼 때, Rowley가 나에게 말했어. "우리 집에서 와서 놀래(Play)?"

 

I have told Rowley/ at least a billion times/ that now that we’re in middle school,/ you’re supposed to say "hang out,/" not "play". /But no matter how many noogies /I give him,/ he always forgets/ the next time.

 

난 Rowley에게 최소 100만 번은 말한 거 같아. 이제는 우린 중학생이라고. "hang out"이라고 말해야지 "play"라고 말하면 안 된다고. 그러나 아무리 꿀밤을 줘도 걔는 다음에 항상 잊어버리더라. 

 

I’ve been trying /to be a lot more careful /about my image /ever since/ I got to middle school. /But having Rowley around /is definitely not helping.

 

난 중학교에 올라온 이후로 계속 내 이미지에 많은 신경을 쓰고 있어. 그러나 Rowley가 내 주변에 있으면 분명히 도움이 되지 않을 거야.

 

I met Rowley/ a few years ago/ when he moved into/ my neighborhood.

 

몇 년 전에 그가 내 근처로 이사 오면서Rowley를 만났어. 

 

His mom bought him/ this book /called “How to Make Friends /in New Places,” /and he came to my house/ trying /all these dumb gimmicks.

 

그의 엄마는 그에게 "How to Make Friends in New Places"라는 책을 사줬어. 그리고 걔는 그 멍청한 방법을 시도하기 위해 우리 집에 왔지. 

 

I guess /I kind of felt sorry/ for Rowley,/ and I decided /to take him/ under my wing.

 

난 Rowley가 꽤 안쓰러웠나 봐. 그리고 그 아이를 챙겨주기로 결심했지.

 

It’s been great/ having him around/, mostly because/ I get to use /all the tricks /Rodrick pulls on me.

 

그의 곁에 있는 것은 정말 좋았어. 왜냐면 대부분 난 거의 모든 장난을 그에게 할 수 있었거든.

본격적으로 Rowley와의 생활이 시작되었네요😁

위에서 "play"와 "hang out"의 미묘한 차이가 있었던 것 같아요.

 

💡 놀다  "play"와 "hang out" 차이

 

play는 보통 "놀다"라는 뜻으로 많이 쓰이고 hang out은 "~와 어울리다"로 많이 사용해요.

그니까 play는 "아이들의 놀이" hang out"은 "어른들의 놀이"라고 보면 되겠습니다.
